Concert brings Christmas joy to residents

Local artistes helped bring the festive spirit to residents of two of our care homes.

The church at Hillbury Home was full with about 160 people as residents of both Hillbury and Gwern Alyn homes, staff and relatives enjoyed their annual concert.

Topping the bill once again was the popular Cymau Male Voice Choir, one of whose members, Don Heyward, is the husband of Hillbury's manager Mildred Heyward.

The soloist was Castell Alun High School pupil Rachel Griffiths and there were contributions from St Joseph's Catholic and Anglican High School. The school has close links with the Pendine Park care organisation, to which both Hillbury and Gwern Alyn belong.

"It was a wonderful evening with a lovely atmosphere, and two of our residents, David Roberts and Hilda Thomas, sang along with the choir," said Mildred.

"We are lucky to have such an ideal venue as the church on the site," she added.

Also present were Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths and Mario Kreft, the proprietor of Pendine Park.

Afterwards Lesley Griffiths commented: "It was wonderful to attend the concert at Hillbury House. The musical talent on display was exceptional and was appreciated by everyone present."

During the evening a raffle was held in aid of the homes' support group which buys gifts for the residents and items for the homes.
